We tested three of these close-shaving razors, and the Bevel Safety Razor was easily the best of the group. The single, double-edged, stainless steel blades take a little more patience and skill to maneuver, but the result is a wildly close shave. The cartridge razors couldn’t provide as close a shave as any of our safety razors. If you’re worried about remembering to fill up on blades, you can set up a subscription with either Amazon or Gillette so you never run out.īest men’s safety razor: Bevel Safety Razor Speaking of cartridges, getting replacements is easy, but the price of the SkinGuard’s replacement blades was a bit higher than our pool’s $2 average, coming in at $2.83 per blade when you buy a pack of 12. Thanks to its rubberized handle and gentle curving shape, it fit perfectly in our hand and was easy to hold and maneuver around our face.īesides its comfort, the SkinGuard also came out unscathed in our drop tests, and can shave solidly clean lines with its precision blade found on the reverse side of the cartridge. We never felt any irritation or experienced any bumps or ingrown hairs - even hours after we shaved.īut this comfort wasn’t limited to just the blades - the SkinGuard is also one of the most ergonomic razors we tested. The bumpers, along with two lubricating strips, gave us a super-smooth shave. The protective blades made it really feel like the razor was gliding across our face - something we always heard about in shaving commercials but never experienced in real life. The SkinGuard also provided superior comfort. In fact, excluding the safety razors, we thought it gave one of the closest shaves of the group. While Gillette says this causes a shave that isn’t as close as its five-blade razors, we didn’t notice much of a difference between the SkinGuard and the other cartridge blades we tested. The razor has little bumpers in between the SkinGuard’s two blades to minimize skin irritation. Out of all the razors we tested, the Gillette SkinGuard gave us the easiest, most comfortable shave by far, mainly due to its specialized blades. ![]() Gillette SkinGuard Razor Kai Burkhardt/CNN The brand will also work with the Movember Foundation to help raise vital funds and awareness to ensure men live happier, healthier, longer lives.Your CNN account Log in to your CNN account With this partnership, Shick Hydro will be the official razor brand of Movember. They just don't ride as well unless you're crawling along river rocks or something where grip and stability is an issue. I had a couple of plus bikes and would never go back. maverick? Maybe the industry realized that people weren't buying the plus tire hype? They were all the rage for years and now you barely see one. I wanted these things before they were popular: Wide, light rims, wider tires, wider handlebars, handlebars with more bend, shorter cranks, blah, blah, blah. I rant here because I have always found fault with what's been available. Same with the Stache: 29+ is too radical. Even though now 29 is the standard and 27.5 becoming the outlier the industry all decided to jump en mass on the 27.5 bandwagon, because it was a case of boiling the frog in water: 29 was too radical. Remember the death of 26"? That was foisted upon us by a concerted effort across the board. We either move forward as a whole, or we don't. After getting my bike I contacted customer support (Dec 2017) about something and expressed my love for the thing, here's a quote I got, "It’s definitely one of the most popular bikes amongst people that work at Trek mainly because it’s a fun bike to ride that is very capable in a lot of different types of terrain." That's why I say people either get it, or they don't. How 'bout Aaron Gwin not wanting to even try the Grim Donut? That's why "shame on Trek" for discontinuing the Stache. Don't you remember how much fat-bike-shaming went on here in the past decade when fat bikes were becoming a "thing?" Despite the fact that certain bikes are optimized for certain conditions the bike industry and populace are largely same old, same old. My gut impression is that people are dismissive of anything fat or semi-fat or plus or even slightly chubby when it comes to the status quo. But, in general, i'm 100% convinced the 29+ trend (at 3") has merit, and really am puzzled why we dont see more of them. The woodsmoke is indeed quite parallel, but i've heard it rides quite different and many of them suffered critical carbon cracks. but still, what an insane bike! Again, such a shame trek backed off the idea, when there is such a fan base. On rocky or jagged stuff, which we also have plenty here, it can get a bit jolting, and you have to sacrifice comfort by pumping the tires up to avoid tearing them (not to mention those shitty Duroc rims). The fun factor is through the roof, assuming your cup of tea isn't all out raw speed. And i know riders who have 10 times my experience who feel the same. Seriously, i've been riding and reviewing bikes for over 15 years, and the Stache is the most surprising and counter intuitive bike i've ever ridden. There's also plenty of room for running a 29 x 2.6” rear totally agree- but i've met more people who were pleasantly surprised (or sometimes amazed) by it, than those who felt it is awkward or cumbersome. Other details include molded chainslap protection, downtube protection, and compatibility with SRAM's Universal Derailleur hanger. I'm nitpicking, but it'd be nice to see the larger sizes have posts with more drop. There's room for two water bottles inside the front triangle, and fairly short seat tube lengths that leave plenty of space for running longer travel dropper posts, although all models come with a 150mm dropper. The aluminum frame has internal cable routing, with a port in the downtube that's used to run a zip tie around the housing to keep it from rattling around. In all seriousness, the Roscoe's frame has shed some of the details that made it stick out as a more entry-level option rather than one designed for more technical off-road riding. I'll pause for a moment while everyone dries their tears. Bad news – the new Roscoe no longer has kickstand mounts on the chainstay. Near the top are Benjamin Maier and Markus Sammer from Austria. There were signs to encourage frequent hand-washing and multiple hand sanitizer stations. In terms of COVID-friendlyness, all guests had to wear masks when walking around the property and they were operating at 50% capacity. The spa treatments are part of the resort’s inclusions - we just had to pay a 25% service fee. We opted into the Aeromatic Infusion massage and it was delightful (George is incredibly ticklish and really enjoyed this treatment). The staff walks you through every step of the process and there are even little snacks / teas for you to enjoy before your massage. We arrived an hour early in order to take advantage of their hydrotherapy experience (sauna, steam room, jacuzzi pool, polar plunge and a relax area). George and I also booked a couple’s spa treatment to help us relax. Cenotes are plentiful in this part of Mexico, so we had multiple options! Our tour guide took us to a more private cenote and we were able to jump into the crystal clean water from a platform and swim around. The Tulum Ruins were a sight to behold as they sit cliffside with a gorgeous view of the ocean. However, we did schedule an excursion to tour the Tulum Ruins and swim in a cenote. And I was as happy as a clam! activitiesīecause we were exhausted from the wedding, we decided to do as little as possible. However, we ended up spending all of our time poolside because that’s where we had direct access to our adult beverages and snacks! Plus, it was less windy. I really wanted a fully sandy beach where I could lounge, so this worried me before we arrived. UNICO does have beach access (little to no seaweed), but the seating is limited and they give preference to their repeat customers. ![]() The resort has three pools on the property, each with plenty of chairs and umbrellas to go around. Our favorite dishes from the restaraunts were the duck tacos & Mayan coffee from Cueva Siete, grilled edemamde from Mura House and the tiramisu from Mi Carisa. Delish! Each restaraunt had it’s own unique vibe and we really enjoyed the food. Our pre-dinner routine was to play checkers in the Lobby Bar while sipping on their Legendary Cocktail (mezcal and pineapple). And we probably over-indulged, but it was worth it. You also have the option to request your bath to be drawn by your local host after dinner - we just asked Arturo!īeing our first all-inclusive experience, George and I were floored at the idea of being able to eat and drink whatever we wanted … whenever we wanted. Each room has either a stand-alone jacuzzi tub or a swim-up pool. And we loved being able to open our doors and listen to the waves crash. Since we were on our honeymoon, we were able to opt into a room upgrade and snagged a suite with an ocean-front view. We loved all of our interactions with the UNICO staff members. He helped us book reservations, answered our questions on what to do/eat/drink, and checked in with us often to see if he could assist with anything. Once check-in was complete, we were introduced to our personal host (Arturo acted as a butler for us during our entire stay). We were greeted with a ginger-cucumber sparkling water (mocktail) and asked to be seated while a UNICO staff member personally checked us into our room. When we arrived, we weren’t allowed to do anything but relax. ![]() Geroge worked with UNICO to arrange the transfer. We flew into Cancun and booked a private transfer from the airport to the resort (the drive was just over an hour from the airport). George and I fell in love with this resort through all of the photos and knew we had to book this resort for our honeymoon. SO, in my hours of research, I found a lovely boutique-esque (adult only) resort in Riviera Maya. I didn’t want my all-inclusive to feel like your typical all inclusive. I don’t know about you, but when I think of all-inclusives … I think of semi run-down, overly themed, not so great food option resorts. Obviously, we wanted our honeymoon to be a trip where we could literally sit and do nothing, so all-inclusives were high up on our list. When I travel, I usually pack the itinerary from 9am to 9pm. There are a plethora of great honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean, so we had many choices to choose from. George and I knew we wanted to visit tropical destinations, so we looked at Saint Lucia, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Tahiti, Grenada, Belize and Mexico. I love planning travel (hence the heavy travel emphasis on the blog) so when I finally had the opportunitiy to pull together some research from scouting honeymoon locations, I was thrilled.
